• These cards are introduced to help students monitor comprehension.
• Students use the cards while reading
• Students "click" when....

- everything makes sense in their head.
- they can read the words
- they understand the meaning of words

• Students "clunk" when...

- something just doesn't make sense
- they come to a word they cannot read
- they come to a word that they can read but don't know the meaning of

• When a "clunk" occurs, students implement fix-up strategies to understand the text and flip back to clunk.
